Obituary for Hicks

Samuel C. Hicks Jr., Master Sergeant USAF Ret., passed on January 3, 2000 at Riverside, California. Born November 22, 1922 in Albuquerque. Samuel was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel C. Hicks Sr. and Minnie G. Hicks. He is survived by his daughters, Susan Holyfield and husband, Dennis of Rio Linda, CA, Bridgette Hicks of San Jose, CA; brother, Eugene and wife, Kay of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Samantha and Grahman of Rio Linda, CA; nephews, Dwain Hicks of Los Angeles, CA, David Hicks of Albuquerque; and many cousins. Samuel was a member of Grant Chapel AME Church. He was a graduate of Albuquerque High School, Class of 1941. Samuel attended UNM as an Art Major and Juilliard School of Music, where he performed under renowned conductors. Sam was also a member of the former Albuquerque Civic Symphony joining in 1940. Samuel served in World War II in the 92nd Infantry Division, participating in the campaigns of North Apennines and PO Valley, and also served in the Republic of Vietnam. After his retirement from the USAF, Sam worked as an Art Illustrator for several aircraft companies and hospitals. Cremation has taken place. Services provided by Inland Funeral Home, Riverside, California.
