Obituary for Gurule

Mr. Nick Gurule, 75, born on October 21, 1924 to Ramon Gurule and Candida Perea, died Friday, December 31, 1999 after a long battle with cancer. Nick, beloved brother and uncle, who never married, was a lifelong resident of the South Broadway area. Mr. Gurule served in the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge in 1943. He worked for the railroad shops during World War II, and also worked for the Black and White Cab Company and Marvel Roofing. Most recently he was a foster grandparent volunteer with Cuidando Los Ninos at Walter St. SE for 12 years. His greatest joy in life was giving of himself and hand crafting wooden toys for the less fortunate. One brother survives him, Jose Anastacio (Tacho) Gurule and wife, Ernestina of Albuquerque; nephew, Ernest R. Gurule and wife, Barbara; niece, Mary Lou Jones and husband, J.J. Jones of Albuquerque; grand nephews and nieces, Tyler C. Jones, Ciera J. Jones, Timothy F. Gurule, Angel J. Gurule, and Brandi M. Gurule. Many cousins also survive him. He was preceded in death by his brother, Celestino Gurule at age 9, his father, Ramon Gurule, and his mother, Candida Gurule. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Salazar & Sons Mortuary. A Rosary for Mr. Gurule will be recited on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the St. Francis Xavier Church. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church where the Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Pallbearers will be Jerry Griego, Terry Griego, Joe Garcia, Ernest Gurule, J.J. Jones and Lorenzo Garcia. Honorary pallbearers will be Tyler C. Jones. Bruial will follow at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Arrangement by the Salazar & Sons Mortuary, 400 Third St. SW.
