Obituary for Bachmann

Arthur Lewis"Bachy" Bachmann Sr., 79, a long time resident of New Mexico, passed away Monday, December 23, 2002. He was born in Wheeling, West Virginia. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps before joining the US Army where he served in the European and Pacific Theaters during World War II. Mr. Bachmann was, at one time, a stonecutter and bricklayer, but he pursued his love of music, playing in many local establishments including Sandia and Kirtland Air Force Base. He was considered one of the finest jazz guitarist in Albuquerque, and many families will remember him as the kindly banjo player at Shakey's Pizza Parlor at Louisiana and Central for 15 years. He was member of the musician union locals 142 and 618 since 1941, resigning recently. Mr. Bachmann was married to Madelon Hammer in 1943. They celebrated their 59th anniversary on Sunday, December 22, 2002. He is survived by his loving family, his wife, Madelon, his daughter Linda L. Smith; six grandchildren and spouses, Deanna and Bill Hoak, Julie Yearout and Bryan, Billy G. Smith, Arthur L. Bachmann III and Kari, Matthew Bachmann and Melissa, Jamie Jordan and Shawn; six great-grandchildren, Zachary, Caitlin, Blaine, Kaylee, Jordyn and Sadie; daughter-in-law, Mary Bachmann; two sisters, and his many friends in Albuquerque and Las Vegas, NM, where he lived for 13 years. In later years ¯Bachy¯ enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling with his wife. In his spare time he enjoyed his hobby of woodworking. He was preceded in death by his only son Arthur L. Bachmann Jr. in November 2001, and his son in law Bill G. Smith in July 2002. His talent, kindness, humor and wonderful smile will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held sometime in January 2003. A private burial will be held at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM.
