Obituary for Hedrick

Elwood (Sonny) Hedrick, 71, a resident of Albuquerque since 1945, passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2002. He was born in Duke, OK on July 8, 1930. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Cheryl Jane; sister, Lila Jeane Turner of Thornton, CO; son, Peter and wife, Susan; daughter, Ginger; daughter, Debra Koller and husband, Paul; grandchildren, Kollin and Samantha Koller, all of Albuquerque; son, David, serving in the U.S. Navy in San Diego, CA; niece, Nita Smith and husband, Bob of Westminster, CO; great-nephew, Shon Smith and wife, Shannon and children, Turner and Tate of Houston, TX; great-niece, Vanessa Ahlrichs and husband, Dave and children, Makinsey and Kirsten of Thornton, CO. Sonny was raised on ranches in Colorado Springs, CO and Deming, NM prior to moving to Albuquerque. He was a 1949 graduate of Albuquerque High School. For several years Sonny drove a truck seeing most of the United States. In 1958, he joined his dad as a partner at Million Auto Parts. Sonny was an active member of the Automotive Recyclers of Bernalillo County for many years. In 1987, he closed the business, but continued to work in the auto salvage business at Bracken Auto Dismantlers and later at Coronado Auto Salvage. Sonny retired in 1996. He was a devoted son, husband, father, grandpa and friend, who was a patriotic American citizen. He was baptized on May 5, 1964 at 5th & Marble Church of Christ, and has been a member of Montgomery Church of Christ since January 1, 1969. Services will be held to honor Sonny Hedrick on Saturday, January 5, 2002, at 11:00 a.m., at Montgomery Church of Christ, 7201 Montgomery Blvd. NE, with Kevin Owen and J.L. Brazell officiating. A visitation will be held at French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE on Friday, January 4, 2002, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pecos Ministry, c/o Montgomery Church of Christ, 7201 Montgomery Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM, 87109.
