Obituary for Buskirk

John Alford (Jack) Buskirk, 79, passed away suddenly Friday, December 21, 2001 in Corrales, NM at home of daughter, Jill. With his death, we lost, a special person - a man's man who honored women and adored his family. Born April 22, 1922 in Hutchinson, KS to Clifford and Gela Buskirk. Preceded in death by sister, Peggy. Survived by wife of 58 years, Eddie Buskirk; sons, Kemper and wife, Susan of Richardson, TX, Craig and wife, Sunny of Waxahachie, TX; daughters, Barbara Kelly and husband, Leo of Albuquerque, NM, Jill Johns and husband, Tom or Corrales, NM; grandson, Jackson Johns; and granddaughters, Sarah Kelly, Blair Kelly, Bailey Johns and Ridgley Johns. Jack was raised in Deming, New Mexico, followed by college at New Mexico State and Pasadena City College. During that time in Ruidoso, New Mexico , he met a girl from Oklahoma, who would become his wife. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, he entered the Army Air Corps at Santa Ana, CA and received his wings March 10, 1943 at Stockton Air Force Base, the day he and Eddie were married. He then spent 18 months at Barksdale Field in Shreveport, LA, as a flight instructor and he trained in the A-26 project, to take the plane to Europe. In France, was in the 671stBomb Squardon- 416thBomb Group, flew 44 combat missions at the age of 22 and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He landed in Brazil on VJ Day and arriving home, met new daughter, Barbara. Three more children completed his family. In Deming, NM he entered the business world, with success in the insurance agency and Auburn Rubber Co. in 1965, the family moved to Dallas, where he spent 25 years with Teledyne Continental Motors, retiring in 1991. He pursued his love of flying in the company Cessna. Their trips and the reunions with his war buddies were special to him. He knew all sports and loved his golf. He touched many lives with his friendliness, humor and loyalty. Jack was a Christian man and a member of Lovers Lane Methodist Church. Cremation has taken place and a Military Memorial will be held in Deming, NM on his 80th birthday.
