Obituary for Rayner

Rodger E. Rayner, 55, a resident of Moriarty, NM passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2002. He was born August 8, 1946 to Forest and Grace (Bowen) Rayner of Independence, KS. He is survived by his mother, Grace of Independence, KS; his wife, Judy of the home; his sons, Robert Rayner of Albuquerque, NM, Christopher Rayner of Albuquerque, NM, Greg Walters of Abilene, TX; his daughters, Gretchen Garner of Albuquerque, NM, Rebecca Borden of Rio Rancho, NM Kathy Just of Las Vegas, NV, Stephanie Fischer of Moriarty, NM. He is also survived by his brother, Carl Rayner of Cherry Vale, KS; his sister, Caroline Irvine of Independence, KS; and 11 grandchildren. He was a Vietnam Veteran in the US Air Force. As a current Torrance County Commissioner, Rodger was very instrumental in passing many new ordinances in Torrance County and the adoption of many progressive ordinances in the fastest growing county in New Mexico, it was an accomplishment he was proud of. He believed in compromise and was always thoughtful and prepared for the meeting. His constituents always considered him one who could be approached on any subject and give it thoughtful consideration. His attitude and approach to life endeared him and provided him with countless friends. Mr. Rayner was a member of the Lions Club, a Board Member of E.V.E.D.A., Torrance County Republican Party Vice Chairman, a member of the Torrance County D.W.I. Council and Health Council and Judge of the Teen Court. He was a loving son, husband, father and grandfather, he will be missed by his family, friends, and neighbors. Mr. Rayner will lie in state Thursday, January 10, 2002, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Harris-Hanlon Chapel in Moriarty. Services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Moriarty, Friday, January 11, 2002, 10:00 a.m. with Dave Bruskas officiating. Burial will follow at the Mountain View Cemetery in Moriarty. Pallbearers will be Steve Jones, Bill Williams, Vernon Miera, David Tixier, Larry Gallant, Dick Ness, Robert Akin and Charles Hughes. Honorary Pallbearers will be Clint Welborne, Heather Wilson, Gary King and Pete Golden. Arrangements were entrusted to the Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Moriarty, NM.
