Obituary for Price

Lena K. Price, 81, a resident of Albuquerque since 1951, went to be with her Lord, Sunday, January 13, 2002. Lena was born on March 14, 1920 to Richard and Edna Betsy Keeton in Creelsboro, Kentucky. Her father was the Jamestown city jailer, a farmer, barber, and at times assisted the FBI. Her mother was a hotel cook, bomb plant employee, homemaker, sales clerk, organist, Church missionary member, and jail keeper. She is survived by her five children, William Dennis Price, and wife, Erika, of Albuquerque, Janice Hennink, and husband, Bob of Grand Rapids, MI, Terry Glenn Price and wife, Sarah of Albuquerque, Peggy (Margaret) Sue Homan and husband, Paul of Albuquerque, and Kelly Bo Price of Livermore, CA; 13 grandchildren, Don Price and wife, Becky of Houston, TX, Heidi Kaminski and husband, Bob of Grand Haven, MI, Shelly Davis and husband, Alan, Todd Hennink, and Brenda Hennink, all of Grand Rapids, MI, Jackie Crumpley and husband, Carl, Sandy Price, Billy Price, all of Albuquerque, Mark Bieniarz of Fort Walton Beach, FL, Christina Vasquez and husband, Mario, of Albuquerque, Tanya Homan Stanley and husband, Michael of Franklin, TN, Kristy Price of Albuquerque, and Staci Price of Albuquerque; five great-grandchildren, Taylor Nichole Davis and Connor Gerrit Davis, all of Grand Rapids, MI, William Dennis Price, Jr., of California, Dawn Price of Texas, and Luke Peter Vasquez of Albuquerque; brother, Richard (Dick) Keeton and wife, Katie of Ann Arbor, MI; sister, Margaret Mastie and husband, Frank of Jamestown, KY; and two special friends, Ann Thomas and Billie Dytzel, both of Albuquerque. Lena was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, William Titus (Bo) Price Jr. who was employed by Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque. Married at the age of 16, Lena and her husband moved from Kentucky to Ann Arbor, MI where she worked for Argus Photography in Optics and Camera assembling. In 1951, they moved to Albuquerque, where she was a loving and devoted wife and mother. A 49-year member of Sandia Church of the Nazarene, Lena served on the Church Board. She was active in Women's Ministries as a wedding consultant, baby and wedding shower coordinator and decorations committee member. She was a Church School teacher, choir member, and church greeter. Lena was the District Troop Organizer for the New Mexico Girl Scout Chaparral Council. For 35 years, she was employed by the New Mexico Lung Association as Fund Raiser Coordinator. Her favorites were her family, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and loving others. She was an expert seamstress, avid reader. She enjoyed cooking, catering, creative crafts, teaching, traveling, and organizing. Most of all were her memories of the"Dogwood Winters" in Kentucky where the creeks began running and the flowers bloomed. She took time to smell the flowers, like Queen Ann's Lace and roses. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Lena was committed to her belief that"Our children are the future of our country." She believed in a college education. She was a person whom people loved for her loyalty, convictions, graciousness, and sense of humor. She will be remembered as a person with dignity and as one who was an inspiration to many. She believed in the Word and her favorite scriptures were: John 3:16, Psalms 118:23, and 24 and James 3:17. When asked what has seemed to be the most important part of her life, she replied,"From the time I was born until now, God has played the most important part. Without Him, I would not be the person that I am today, and I would not enjoy my life to its fullest." Services will be held Saturday, January 19, 2002, 1:00 p.m. at Sandia Church of the Nazarene, 2801 Louisiana NE, with Pastor Mark Bane, Pastor Marvin Pounds, Pastor Gregg Counce. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, Friday, January 18, 2002, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sandia Church of the Nazarene, Youth Department, 2801 Louisiana NE, 87110 or to the American Lung Association of NM, 216 Truman NE, 87108.
