Obituary for Holms

Louise Reese Holms, 94, a resident of Tijeras since 1982, passed away Saturday, January 12, 2002. She is survived by her son, John P. Holms and wife, Karin of Des Moines, IA; daughter, Barbara Gentry and husband, Wilbur of Tijeras; one grandson, John Gentry and wife, Cinamon of Albuquerque; and sister, Glenda Beltz of Atlanta, GA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Pynchon Holms in 1961. Louise met Frank in Lincoln, NE. The couple eloped to be married in Reno, NV on June 27, 1939, and then settled in Sidney, NE in 1943. She graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1931 with a degree in education and taught in a one-room schoolhouse. She later went to business school in Lincoln, NE and worked for Bankers Life Insurance Co. Upon the death of her husband, she continued running their accounting business until her retirement in 1982. Louise was an accomplished visual artist working in watercolor and clay. She loved music, particularly opera, and sang soprano in the Light Memorial Presbyterian Church choir in Sidney for many years. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Saturday, 1:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Rev. Clyde Stanfield officiating.
