Earl Charles Young, age 80, died Monday, January 21, 2002. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 47 years, Ruth Anna Young. He is survived by his children, Tom Young of Albuquerque, David Young and wife, Glendora of Belen, Karen Metelits and husband, Irv of Albuquerque, Jackie Thompson and husband, Gary of Los Alamos, Bonny Nead and husband, Ken of Rio Rancho; and by 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Earl was born in Herrington, Kansas on July 13, 1921, but was raised with his 12 brothers and sisters in Albuquerque. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was present at the Battle of Midway. He was a painter by trade, an artist by heart, and a lover of people by nature. His enthusiasm and out-spoken personality made him a one-of-a-kind man, yet it is these characteristics that will cause him to be greatly missed. The family would like to express their appreciation for the exemplary care given to our father by the compassionate staff of Manor Care Sandia and the employees and volunteers of Vista Care Hospice. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 25, 2002 at Chapel of Sandia, 7601 Wyoming Blvd NE. with Pastor Patricia Walker officiating. Interment will follow at 12:30 p.m. Friday at Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM. Sandia Funeral Care, 7601 Wyoming Blvd NE, 821-0010.
