Obituary for Ward

Adelina (Lena) Chacon, 91, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 20, 2002 surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her nephew, Jaime I. Chacon; niece, Yvonne Pitts; grandnieces, Jolene Peralta and husband Jerry, Michele Akers and Robin Pitts; grandnephew, Jimmy Chacon and wife Lori; great-nieces and nephews, Monique and Jeremy Peralta, Casey and Cody Chacon, Alexis and Shane Akers; cousins, Rose Marie Parker and husband, Matthew, Cathy Haley, Fred Garcia and Frances Garcia; and many other loving family and friends. She was born October 23, 1910 to Ireneo Eduardo Chacon and Maria de la Soledad Chavez, who was the first woman acting Governor in the United States. Lena was married to David Ward on October 29, 1938, which all three have preceded her in death including her brother, Santiago (Jim) Chacon. Lena attended and graduated from the University of New Mexico. She taught school in Albuquerque for six years. She went into the loan business in Albuquerque for ten years and then moved to Chicago, IL and worked for Montgomery Wards for seven years. She went to work for the NM State Bureau of Revenue in 1961 where she retired at the age of 60. Rosary will be recited Friday, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE. Mass will be celebrated Saturday, 1:00 p.m., at San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church, 2005 Plaza NW, Old Town. Cremation will take place after the service and a private burial will take place at a later date. Pallbearers will be Jaime I. Chacon, Jimmy Chacon, Jeremy Peralta, Fred Garcia, Teddy Chacon and Matthew Parker. Our family would like to thank the staff at Anna Kaseman Hospice Unit for all their loving and compassionate care given to Lena.
