Obituary for Roberts

David Anthony Roberts, age 66, beloved father of Kristina Roberts Faller of Fairport, NY and Kathleen Mary Roberts of Brooklyn, NY passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2002 in Albuquerque where he had been living for the past few years. He was born in Utica, NY on December 12, 1935, the oldest son of Owen A. and Sarah Docksteder Roberts. He received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Wesleyan University and Johns Hopkins University and a Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut. Over the years, Mr. Roberts taught English Literature and Modern Drama at Utica College, SUNY Oswego, the University of Hartford, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Russell Sage College. During the 1960's and 70's, he was active in local theater, bringing artist together for mixed media productions at the Kirkland Art Center and other venues. Throughout his life, he was a passionate supporter of the individual and the individual imagination. He is survived by his two daughters, Kristina Suzanne and Kathleen Mary; his sister, and her husband, Sally Ann and Thomas Flannery of Albany; his brother and sister-in-law, Stewart Allen and Jane A. Roberts; nephews, Matthew and Vincent Amico and Stewart Wicks Roberts; nieces, Kimberly Roberts and Mary Beth Geglia; by many old friends in the Utica and Hartford, CT area; and by all those who were touched by his life. A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, January 19, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. at Surridge & Roberts Funeral Home, 470 French Rd., Utica, NY 13502, phone 315-732-1039. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in David Roberts' memory to the Owen A. Roberts Fund at Utica College.
