Janette M. McSparren "Jan", born November 22, 1930, a resident of Albuquerque for over 32 years, passed away at a local hospital following a long illness on February 7, 2002. Jan spent her childhood in Sioux City, Iowa and Kimball, South Dakota. She later served in United States Navy from 1951-1954 as a photographers mate. Jan is survived by her son, John R. McSparren U.S.N. Ret.; granddaughter, Cassandra M. McSparren; and great-granddaughter, Jasmine C. McSparren. She was a charter member of WAVES National (The U.S. Navy Woman's Association) and N.M. Unit #04 Roadrunners. Jan was active in local Veterans affairs, VAMC Woman advisory committee and Veterans advocacy management council, department: Veteran affair, Region #18 management advisory committee, National PVA womens advisory committee on Women Veterans. Cremation has taken place and private interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the U.S. Navy Memorial, Washington, D.C.
