Obituary for Padilla

Alfredo A. Padilla Big Al, 76, a resident of Bernalillo, NM for over forty years, the foundation and strength of our family, was called to be with our heavenly Father on Tuesday, February 19, 2002. Alfredo was born in Springer, NM to Alfredo and Adelina Padilla on July 15, 1925. He was the oldest of eight siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents; his youngest sister, Gloria Padilla; his youngest son, Ernie Padilla; and most recently his favorite brother, Ofelio Padilla, who passed away on February 6, 2002. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Elsie Chavez Padilla; three sons, Johnny and wife, Sylvia, Fred and wife, Nadine and Michael Padilla; his grandchildren, Jeff and fiancé, Isabel Flores, Chris, Steve and Diana Padilla; his great-grandchildren, Joshua, Marcus, Destiny, Chris and Shantell Padilla. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Regina Padilla; sisters, Martha Andazola and husband, Simon, Margaret Ponce, Phyllis Duran and husband, Juan; brothers, Joseph Padilla and wife, Maureen and Robert Padilla and wife, Dora. Alfredo served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. He was employed by Plains Electric Generation & Transmission Co-Operative, Inc. for 43 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Bernalillo, NM. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 69, the Bernalillo Volunteer Fire Department, Defined Fitness in Rio Rancho, Knights of Columbus, Meadowlark Senior Center and Fishing Club, Rio Rancho/Sandoval County Senior Olympics, Sandoval County Senior Center and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Al enjoyed playing pool and had a passion for fishing, especially on his boat with his brother, Ofelio. Al will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by all who had the chance to be a part of this great and wonderful man's life. The family extends its sincere thanks and appreciation to the Hematology-Oncology Associates, P.C., Presbyterian Hospital ACOP Services and the Presbyterian Hospice Program. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Presbyterian Hospice, 8100 Constitution NE, Suite 120, Albuquerque, NM, 87110 (505-559-1122), in memory of Alfredo A. Padilla. A rosary will be recited at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Bernalillo, Friday, February 22, 2002, at 7:30 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 23, 2002, at 10:00 a.m., also at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Sorrows Cemetery in Bernalillo. Pallbearers will be Jeff Padilla, Chris Padilla, Steve Padilla, Alfred Duran, Eric Padilla and Robert Duran. Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughter, Diana Padilla and his great-grandchildren, Joshua, Marcus, Destiny, Chris and Shantell Padilla and special friends, Ronnie Serbin and Paul Rostro.
