Obituary for Henderson

V.R. Henderson, 85, a resident of Albuquerque, NM since 1994 passed away on Tuesday, February 26, 2002. He is survived by his two daughters, Kathryn Malone and husband, Fred of Albuquerque and Miriam Eley and husband, Elem of Titusville, NJ; three grandchildren, Jocelyn Duran and husband, Greg, Heather Sickenger and husband, Doug all of Albuquerque and Benjamin Eley of Titusville, NM; two great-grandchildren, Caitlyn and Steven Duran of Albuquerque. In addition, he is survived by his sister, Virginia Francis Selman and husband, Ervin; nephew, Don Selman; and niece, Ginger Gay all of San Antonio, TX. Venice Roland Henderson, Jr., better known as V.R., was born on February 10, 1917 in Waco, TX to the late Venice Roland and Adah B. Sugg Henderson. He was a devoted husband to Anita, his late wife of 54 years, and a dedicated father to his daughters and their families. Following graduation from Waco High School in 1935, V.R. worked for 50 years as a freight Rates and Claims Analyst. His job took him to San Antonio in the 1940's-50's where he also attended Trinity University. Upon retiring in 1988 from over 35 years with Central Freight lines in Waco, V.R. worked part time for several years at the Baylor University Moody Library. Beginning in his youth and throughout his life, V.R. was an avid music lover and active church member. He enjoyed singing in church choirs, photography, reading and working with his hands. This tall Texan possessed a friendly, witty, warm personality and a devotion to God, family and knowledge, a true"southern gentleman." A Memorial Service and interment was held Saturday, March 2, 2002 in Waco, TX. On Sunday, March 10, 2002, friends, relatives and Carestone family are invited to a reception to be held 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. at Carestone of Albuquerque, 7101 Eubank Blvd. NE.
