Obituary for Martinez

Jesus M. Martinez, 99, passed away after a short illness on Thursday, March 14, 2002. He was born on July 1, 1902, in Lagos de Moreno in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. He came to the United States when he was thirteen and worked on the railroad in Kansas before moving to Madrid, NM where he worked in the coal mines. In Madrid, he met and married his wife, Angela Roman Martinez in 1924. The family moved to Albuquerque where Jesus worked as a concrete finisher and plasterer until the age of 72, when he retired. He is survived by his wife, Angela, known as Angelita to her friends; daughters, Maria Martinez of Madrid, Sofia McGough and husband, Eugene of Carlsbad, Alicia Martinez and husband, James Barber of Cuyamungue, NM, Mellie Malcomson and husband, James of San Francisco, Emma Lutton, Shirley Salinas, Angela Romero, Inez Benson and husband Charles, Rosie Campbell and husband Lewis, Laura Martinez and Margo Martinez and husband, Sasha Siemel, all of Albuquerque; sons, Robert Martinez, Antonio (Tony) Martinez and Frank Martinez and wife Linda, all of Albuquerque; as well as 35 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sons, Jess who died in 1964 and James in 1971. A memorial rosary will be recited Monday, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Deacon Merce Villareal reciting. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, 10:00 a.m., at San Ignacio Catholic Church, 1300 Walter NE, with Father Ramon Aragon, Celebrant.
