Ernest Edward Smith, 82, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2002. Ernest was born in Duluth, MN, on January 3, 1920. He attended the University of Minnesota and had 31-1/2 years of service with the Federal Government, including the Government Accounting Office and the Atomic Energy Commission. Ernest was a World War II veteran, having served with the US Army infantry troops in Europe. He married Sigre Violet Lemponen on April 12, 1941. They lived in Washington, DC, Minneapolis, MN, Los Alamos, NM, Pittsburgh, PA, Pueblo West, CO, Colorado Springs, CO, and Albuquerque, NM. His interests included photography, reading, traveling, and auto mechanics. Survivors include his wife, Violet; son, Dennis E. Smith of Albuquerque; daughters, Barbara L. Aamodt of Santa Fe and Geraldine L. Barker of Union City, PA; grandchildren, Jenny R. Martinez of Albuquerque, Gretchen N. Smith of Portland, OR, James E. Aamodt of Las Vegas, NV, Kristi Aamodt Beguin of Los Alamos, Heather L. Radel of Erie, PA, and Gidget M. Ulbrich, of Arnold, PA; six great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and friends. Cremation arrangements by Vista Verde Memorial Park and Mortuary.
