Obituary for Smith

Edward L. Smith, a resident of Albuquerque since 1959, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2002, after a hard fought battle with cancer. He was born December 16, 1932 in Berlin, New Hampshire, the son of Frederick and Theresa McFarlane Smith. Mr. Smith was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army, where he served from 1950 to 1953. He was employed by Sandia National Labs for 27 years before retiring in 1996. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Francis, Frederick and Richard, and three sisters, Ella, Margret and Louise. He is survived by a wife, Ruth; one sister, Mary Murphy of Bedford Hills, NH; a son, William and wife, Angela Smith of Las Cruces, NM; two daughters, Lori Smith of Albuquerque and Paula Tauber and husband, Steve of Pittsburgh, PA; and eight grandchildren. Visitation for Mr. Smith will be held Tuesday, March 26, 2002, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Hillcrest Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 27, 2002, 11:00 a.m., at Hillcrest Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Moore officiating.
