Obituary for Bruhns

John W. Bruhns, age 75, passed away March 14, 2002 in West Bloomfield, MI after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born on October 20, 1926 in Dayton, OH to the late William and Martha (Goldschmitz) Bruhns. He served in the U.S. Marines during WWII in the South Pacific. He was a member of the Marine Corps League. John married Therese Jordan on August 21, 1948. He was a retired Detective Lieutenant of the Detroit Police Dept. He earned a degree in Police Administration from Wayne State University and was a Director of the Police Academy at Macomb County Community College for 18 years and trained 8000 officers. He retired to Albuquerque and was a volunteer for AARP 55 Alive, National Atomic Museum Foundation and served as Ombudsman State of NM. He was a member of the International Police Association, Detroit Police Lieutenant and Sergeants Association, Retired Detroit Police and Fire Fighters Association, and Veteran of Foreign Wars. He was a member of the Catholic Church of Risen Savior in Albuquerque. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Therese L. Bruhns; five children, Christine (Mike) Mills of Duquesne, PA, Cecelia (Jeff) Rohrbacher of Toledo, OH, Cynthia (David) Hawke of South Lyon, MI, Mark (Donna) Bruhns of Harrison Twp., MI, Claudia (Bob) Leonard of Silver City, NM; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 18505 W. Twelve Mile Road, Southfield, MI 48076. A Private Family Funeral Mass will be held. Arrangements by Phillips Funeral Home, South Lyon.
