Obituary for Maestas

Simon Maestas, 74, passed away, Monday, March 25, 2002 at home after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife, Delfina; children, Terri Castille and husband, Leon; Bill Maestas and wife, Alice; Bobb Maestas, Paula Maestas, Patricia Bryant and husband, Steve; David Maestas and Catheryn Maestas; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; seven brothers; four sisters; and numerous nieces, nephews, and several close friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his mother, Antonita; father, Pablo; and brother, Gilbert. Simon was born and raised in northern New Mexico. He was a decorated veteran of World War II and The Korean War. Simon received numerous medals including two Purple Hearts. He had a lifelong love of foreign cars and fast driving. Simon was a car mechanic for many years and serviced many celebrity owned vehicles including John Wayne and Sean Connery while residing in California. In his later years, his hobbies included gardening and raising his three turtles, 1, 2, and 3. He will be missed by everyone who knew him. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, March 27, 2002, 9:00 a.m., at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 11401 Indian School Rd. NE, with Father Tom Zotter, Celebrant. Interment will follow at 12:00 noon, at Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Crossroads Hospice Care, Inc., P.O.
