Obituary for Massimo

Richard Joseph Massimo, 66, a resident of Albuquerque for the past 40 years, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2002. Richard was born June 14, 1935, the son of Angelo and Helen Massimo in Slickville, PA (both deceased). He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Rosemary A. Massimo; his sister and her husband, Theresa M. and Wayne Bush, both of Latrobe, PA; his sister-in-law, Patricia E. Gonzales; his brother-in-law, Steve D. Stephens and his wife, Debbie; and four children, Ramona C. Massimo-Simmons and husband, Lamarr, Richard L. Massimo and wife, Lisa; G. Raymond Massimo and fiancé, Theresa, and Rhonda J. Haycox, and husband, Chris. Nine grandchildren, Anita M. Pohl, Joshua, Jessie and Clarice Massimo, Tristen Portzman, Jacqueline, Alicia and Jolene Sun, Andrea Haycox and one great-grandchild, Ashley Nicole Pohl, as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins, family and friends. Richard met wife, Rosemary while on active duty at Kirtland AFB, here in Albuquerque, NM. They married in 1956 and were immediately transferred to Germany. They returned stateside in 1958 where after another two-years of active service, Richard returned to civilian life and began working for AT&T where he retired as a second-level manager in 1989. A talented artist, sculptor and painter, Richard spent many hours reproducing the beautiful southwestern scenery he loved so dearly. Viewing will be made available to all family and friends at Hillcrest Funeral Home, located at 225 San Mateo NE on Sunday, April 7th from 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. with a Rosary following at 6:00 p.m. A reception will be held from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. that same evening at the family home located at 8025 Fruit Avenue NE. Funeral Services will be held at Our Lady of Assumption Parish at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 8th at 11:00 am. Internment will follow at Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM at 1:30 p.m. Pallbearers will be: sons, Richard and Raymond Massimo, sons-in-law, Christopher Haycox and Lamarr Simmons; nephew, Salvador Gonzales; and nephew-in-law, Eric Hieber. Honorary Pallbearers are: grandsons, Joshua and Jessie Massimo, nephew and godson, Benjamin Stephens and godson, Michael Seligman.
