Obituary for Kubitz

Carol Summerside Kubitz, age 90, passed away April 13, 2002 at her home in Albuquerque. She was born November 16, 1911 in Huron, South Dakota to Frank and Caroline (Oestreich) Summerside. She was a resident of the Montebello Retirement Community for the past seven years. Prior to her move to Albuquerque she and her husband, Vern were residents of Gallup since 1954. She graduated from the University of South Dakota in 1934 and taught physical education until her marriage in 1938. In Gallup, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was extremely active with a number of community organizations including the American Association of University Women, the Hospital Auxiliary, Girl Scouts and was a 50 year member of the Eastern Star of Redfield South Dakota. She is survived by daughters, Anne Jue of Tucson, AZ, Julie Lucas (Curtis) of Hobbs, NM and Jill Chavez (Lee) of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Randy Jue, Debbie Jue, Lory Nunez (Ben), Kevin Lucas, Stephanie Behrens (Kirk), and Domonic Chavez; and great-grandchildren, Allison Jue, Stetson and Emma Lucas, Derrick and Cera Nunez, Christopher and Nicholas Behrens. She is survived by siblings, Robert Summerside of Pierre, SD, George Summerside of Libby, MT, Frank Summerside of La Mars, IA, and Rosemary Meyers of Phoenix, AZ. Mrs. Kubitz was preceded in death by her husband, Vern in 1984; son-in-law, Jim Jue; siblings, Dorothy Taylor, Helen Lawson, and Jean Summerside. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, April 22, 2002 at the Montebello, 10500 Academy Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM at 10:30 a.m. Friends may visit at the Rollie Mortuary in Gallup at 3:00 p.m. Graveside Services at 4:00 p.m. will be held at Sunset Memorial Park in Gallup, NM.
