Raymond G. Martinez September 7,1917 - April 18, 2002A lifetime resident of Santa Fe, New Mexico went home to our Lord on Thursday, April 18, 2002. Mr. Martinez was born on September 7, 1917, in Ojo de la Vaca, NM, to Pedro and Francesquita Martinez. The family moved to Santa Fe when he was a young child, where he would live for the rest of his life. In 1942, Mr. Martinez joined the U.S. Army and served proudly with Company D, 351st Infantry Regiment, 88th Infantry Division, in Northern Africa and saw extensive combat action in Italy during World War II. Upon his return to Santa Fe, he met Luisa Lujan during Fiestas and they were married in 1946. Mr. Martinez was a friend to all. A man of his word, reliable, dependable and a great source of stability to his family and friends. He was so very kind, gentle and unselfish; always ready to offer a helping hand, quiet and patient asking little and giving so much. He taught by example and left a lasting impression to anyone who was willing to learn. Talented, but humble, Mr. Martinez was a master brick layer and plasterer who used this gift from God to create beautiful masterpieces. He was a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Santa Fe and a member of La Union Protectiva. He was preceded in death by his wife, Luisa; his parents; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Daniel and Isabelita, Alfonso, Salomon and Frances, and Antonio and Socorro; and his sisters, Eloisa, Anita, Angelina Martinez and Flora Garcia and husband, Fidel; and two beloved, sisters-in-law, Josefita Romero and Frances Gutierrez. Mr. Martinez is survived by his sister, Adelaida Garcia; and sister-in-law, Mary Martinez; his children, Cecilia Martinez of Santa Fe, Christella Aguirre and husband, Mariano of Albuquerque, Josina Cisneros and husband, Larry of Santa Fe, Ralph Martinez and wife, Diana of Albuquerque; his beloved grandchildren, Jennifer Parkins and husband, Josh, Odelia, Samantha, and Raymond Martinez all of Albuquerque; great-grandchildren who were the light of his life, Mya Martinez and Aidan Parkins. Also, his"adopted hita," Julie Gallegos; and numerous other close family members and friends. Rosaries will be recited on Saturday, April 20 at 7:30 p.m., Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, Alameda & 4th St. in Albuquerque, NM, and Sunday, April 21, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 417 Agua Fria St. in Santa Fe. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 22, 2002 at 9:30 a.m., at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 1301 Osage Ave, also in Santa Fe. Burial will follow at the National Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers will be his grandson Raymond Martinez, his nephews Sonny Martinez, Leroy Martinez, Ricky Martinez, Peter Garcia, and"hito" Robert Pacheco. Funeral services are entrusted to Alameda Mortuary, 9420 4th Street NW. 898-3160.
