Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday April 21, 2002

Mary Jane ("Jerry") Rose, 85, died at home on April 16, 2002. Mary Jane Brown was born in Michigan, graduated from Kingswood School in Bloomfield Hills, and Chevy Chase Junior College. She married William I. Rose in 1936, and moved to New Mexico with her family in 1950, when her husband founded Sun Country Industries. She lived on the west side of the Rio Grande, within sight of the bosque and Sandia Mountain. Jerry and her husband"Willy" both loved reading and helped build the Corrales Community Library. They were also proud leaders in the creation of the"Corrales Swimming Club," a social club with a rustic homemade outdoor pool that gathered friends in Corrales every summer day for 25 years. Jerry was a past president of All Faith's Home and the La Luz Landowners Association. She was a supporter and volunteer for the New Mexico Museum of Natural History, Planned Parenthood, and feeding the homeless. After Willy died in 1966, Jerry constantly expanded her circle of friends, always finding some to join her for a trip, an interesting class, a bit of dancing, a round of bridge, or some dixieland or blues. She organized a good share of her friends' social plans, and all her family's frequent reunions as well. She took her grandchildren on many far away adventures. Her 70th birthday party at the Palace Hotel in 1986 was a highlight. Her initiative and joy will be sorely missed. Jerry was preceded in death by her husband, William I. Rose; her brother, Aaron S. Brown; her sister, Elizabeth (Botts) Pulakos; a daughter, Sally Zolman; and two grandsons. She is survived by; a daughter, Elizabeth McElvain of Lemitar, New Mexico; a son, William I. Rose of Houghton, Michigan; five grandchildren: Jennifer Lind, Kristin Maas, Guy McElvain, Christopher and Jason Rose; and seven great-grandchildren. A gathering of family and friends will take place on May 5, 2002 at 5:00-9:00 p.m. at her home. Instead of flowers, the family suggests gifts to support the Corrales Community Library or the New Mexico Museum of Natural History. Cremation was handled by Sunrise Society, 891-8200.
