Obituary for Hall

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Wednesday April 24, 2002

Cyrus D. Hall, 1921-2002. CWO2 USN (Ret), passed away April 17, 2002. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Luise L. Hall; his son, Jeffery S. Hall, GSEC (SW) USN; and his grandson, Scotty. Cyrus was born June 21, 1921. He served his country faithfully enlisting in the Navy in 1939, fighting communism in World War II and in the Korean War. He retired in 1960, having attained the rank of Chief Warrant Officer after 21 years of faithful service. His duty stations included the Battleship USS Texas, the Minesweep YMS 183, the USS Manchester CL 83, the USS Algol AKA 54, the USS Essex CV9, the USS Fremont APA 44, and the USS Albermarle AV 5. He taught Fire Control School in Great Lakes, Illinois, and completed his military career as a Test Engineer at White Sands Missile range. He continued to serve his country as an employee of Sandia National Laboratories, working as a Field Engineer. He was quickly recognized for his level of knowledge, and ability to get the job done right the first time. He became the"go to" person to solve whatever problems occurred in the prototype weapons program. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and of the Fleet Reserve Association. A devoted husband, father, and mentor for his family and friends, he always had a kind word to offer, and was ready to offer assistance in whatever way was needed. His advice and guidance has proven invaluable. The world is a poorer place for his passing. His family would like to thank those who have rendered comfort and aid during this trying time. Cremation took place on April 18, 2002 and a Memorial Service is scheduled for Tuesday, April 30, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at the family home. Cyrus will be buried at sea this summer. May God Bless him. Arrangements by Riverside Funeral Home in Belen.
