Obituary for Flaska

Laura K. Flaska, born April 17, 1915, in Deming, New Mexico to Charles Joseph Kelly and Goldie G. Goolsby, died April 19, 2002 at the age of 87. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman, February 11, 2002. Her survivors include a niece, Sallie Ann Hane; and a brother-in-law, Reverend John A. Flaska Jr. Laura graduated from the University of New Mexico and taught public school in southwestern New Mexico and in McKinley County. She was later a graduate student at the University of Indiana. During the Second World War, she was in personnel management with the contractor building an air base at Fort Sumner, New Mexico. She was employed by the accounting firm Linder, Burk and Stephenson, which became Peat, Marwick and Mitchell. She, then, served as secretary to the University of New Mexico Law Faculty. Upon returning to Peat, Marwick, and Mitchell, she served as personal secretary to the Managing Partners until her retirement. An avid gardener, she was a member of the Albuquerque Rose Society and The American Rose Society achieving the coveted distinction of judge. She belonged to the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Viewing will be conducted Tuesday, April 23, 2002 from 1:00 p.m. until recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. in the Fern Chapel, Strong-Thorne Mortuary. A Memorial Mass will be conducted Wednesday, April 24, 2002 10:00 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 1818 Coal Pl. SE. Strong-Thorne Mortuary 1100 Coal Ave. is in charge of arrangements.
