Obituary for Inglis

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Thursday April 25, 2002

Karen Gail Inglis was born on December 26, 1946 in Albuquerque. A lifelong resident of the North Valley she died peacefully at home on Monday. She attended Valley High School and was a graduate of the University of New Mexico. Professionally, her work as a fine art and antiques appraiser was fueled by an intense love of the subject. A member of the American Society of Appraisers since 1980, she served as an officer on the Board of Directors on many occasions. Karen was deeply dedicated to maintaining the level of ethical standards among appraisers and was always working to raise the level of awareness surrounding the profession. However, she was probably most well known for the constant stream of estate sales she and her team held virtually every weekend for nearly 20 years. Her devoted mailing list were among the hundreds saddened when she recently closed Appraisals Unlimited, the business she had built and loved. Karen's life was defined not by her resilience to all forms of adversity but by her ability to take the focus away from herself with a sincere interest in others. Karen was the family resource for all matter of things from trends to trivia, fashion to foods, grammar to etiquette. She loved the many different animals that shared their lives with her over the years as well as the gardens she kept, and the books she read. She possessed a strong spirit and inner strength as well as a great deal of energy. She was loved and will be missed. Karen is survived by her husband of 35 years, Mike; her son, Jesper; mother, Mary Radick; and devoted dog, Charlie. A Ceremony will be held at the St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church located at 601 Montano Rd. NW. The church is just west of 4th St. on the north side of the road. The Memorial will begin at 10:30 a.m. and arrival is recommended for 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Amytrophic Lateral Sclerosis Association 27001 Agoura Road, Suite 150 Calabasas Hills, CA 91301-5104.
