Obituary for Gillon

Joan Rodgers Gillon, 81, a resident of Albuquerque since 1958, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Eli Gillon; sons, Stephen Gillon of Homer, AK; John David Gillon of Portland, OR; daughters, Mary Chester and husband, Curtis, of Phoenix, AZ; Elizabeth Gaenzle and husband, Kurt, of La Jolla, CA; grandchildren, Ramona Gillon, Barron Gillon, Sterling Gillon, Samuel Chester, Jacquie Gillon, and Nikolai Gaenzle; and brother, John Rodgers of Charlotte, NC. She was preceded in death by her sister, Winifred Hardy. Mrs. Gillon was born in England and immigrated to the US at the age of 3. She was married to Eli Gillon on October 31, 1942. She accompanied him during 25 years of military service including his final station in Albuquerque. Mrs. Gillon worked at Sandia National Labs as a secretary for 24 years until her retirement in January, 1983. She enjoyed weaving and traveling throughout the world. Mrs. Gillon was an active volunteer for the Good Shepherd Center Auxiliary and Honorary Companion of the Little Brothers of the Good Shepherd. She was a member of Our Lady Of The Assumption Catholic Church. Mrs. Gillon was a loving wife, beloved mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Rosary will be recited Monday, May 20, 2002, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE with Brothers of the Good Shepherd reciting. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, May 21, 2002, 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, Lomas at Tennessee, NE, with Father Luis Jaramillo, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, NM. Pallbearers will be family and Brothers of the Good Shepherd. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Center, P.O. Box 749, Albuquerque, NM, 87103. Arrangements by French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE.
