Obituary for Cook

Cleo"Granny" Cook, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2002. She is survived by her son, Earl Cook, Jr. and wife, Alice; grandchildren, Gina Burkhalter and husband, Mark, Gemma Hermina and husband, Wahid, James Cook and wife, Julie; great-grandchildren, Vanessa Cook, Kammi Cook of Albuquerque, Abbi Cook of Durango, CO, Ashley Cook of California, Natalie Burkhalter, Sam Burkhalter and Olivia Burkhalter, all of Alpharetta, GA; grand-daughter-in-law, Josephine Cook; and many nieces and nephews. Cleo was preceded in death by her grandchildren, Suzanne Cook and Mark Cook; brothers, James Luellen, Wayne Luellen; sisters, Marie Stephen and Helen Brown, all of New Castle Indiana; and parents, William Luellen and Gertrude Gold Luellen. She attended school in New Castle, IN and graduated from New Castle high school in 1926. Cleo came to Albuquerque in 1943. She managed the Betty Gay shop at 4th and Central (next door to Meyer and Meyer) for several years until the store closed. Cleo owned and operated"Cleo's Maternity Togs"in the Bellhaven Shopping Center. In 1960, she was voted Albuquerque Business Woman of the Year by the ABWA. There are so many wonderful things to remember about Cleo, but those that will always stand out will be her love of family, her laughter, great personality, her chicken and dumplings and her great"Charleston." She will always be in our hearts and cherished by those who knew her. Rosary was recited Friday, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE. Mass was celebrated Saturday, 8:30 a.m.,at Our Lady of Annunciation Catholic Church, Phoenix and Vermont. Interment followed at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Paul Vaio, Daniel Monte, Michael Sei, Rodger DeAngles, Pierce Runnels and Gregory Poteet. Honorary pallbearers were Gwinn Bud Henry, Danny Skousen, George Otero, Albert Grubesic, Robert Lalicker and John Monte.
