Obituary for Mcdermott

Robert E. McDermott, 75, died Tuesday, June 11, 2002. He was born in St. Paul, MN on May 17, 1927. He attended MacAllister College in St. Paul and served for two years in the U.S. Army Occupational Forces in Japan. In 1948, he married his beloved wife of 54 years, Loretta. They have lived in Albuquerque since 1955. He worked as a mechanical designer for Sandia Corporation. He is survived by his wife, Loretta; son, Kit and wife, Tricia of Simsbury, CT; grandson, Daniel and granddaughters, Eslie and Alyn; son, Stacy and wife, Kay Kay of Edgewood, NM; grandsons, Jesse, and David and Scott Meyers. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Bert and Marjorie McGovern of Albuquerque, sister-in-law, Marcia Rotello of Albuquerque; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob's great love was music. He was a gifted jazz musician, singer and guitar player. For many years he played with some of the best Albuquerque jazz musicians and in later years continued to play with friends. He was also a skilled craftsman, working with his wife, Loretta, to create icons, build dollhouses and furniture. He loved the outdoors and working in his gardens. He was a loving husband and father, and a good neighbor. Bob knew the Lord and was a parishioner at St. Bernadette Catholic Church. A memorial funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 17, 2002, at 9:00 a.m., at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, Indian School and Martha NE. Interment will follow at 1:00 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Flowers in his memory may be sent to St. Bernadette Catholic Church.
