Obituary for Burger

Elaine Helen Burger (Weibel), 91, a resident of Albuquerque since 1952, died Friday, June 21, 2002. She is survived by her son, Robert Burger and wife, Kathi, of Houston, TX; daughter, Jean Calt and husband, Eugene; grandsons, Barry Calt of Albuquerque, Brian Calt and wife, Susan of Colorado Springs, Daniel Calt of Rio Rancho; granddaughters, Stephanie Calt of Greeley, CO and Trina Burger of Kansas. She is also survived by her brothers Ralph and the Reverend George Weibel of Denver and sister, Mary (Weibel) Anthofer of Stratton, CO. Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph P. Burger; her parents, her brothers Louis, Fred, Walter, Frank, Arthur and her sister, Clara (Weibel) Knochel. Mrs. Burger was born November 22, 1910 at Dalton, NE to Frank and Helen Weibel. She was educated at Stratton High School in Denver and the University of Denver where she earned her teaching certificate. Mrs. Burger married Joseph in 1941. They lived in Colorado, New Mexico and Texas during their married life. Elaine taught elementary school in a one-room schoolhouse in rural Colorado; cared for her elderly aunt Emma De Porter until her aunt's death; owned and operated a hair salon and was a salesperson in retail stores besides being a great wife and mother. Elaine was a member of Our Lady of Annunciation Golden Agers Club and taught religious education. Mrs. Burger's interests were her family, her church, gardening, playing bridge, making ceramics and sewing. She was especially proud of having developed and prepared a family history of the Weibel family. The Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, June 25, 2002 at 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE, with the Marianites reciting. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 26, 2002 at 8:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Annunciation Church, 2621 Vermont Ave. NE. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum, 7500 Paseo del Norte NE. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a Catholic Mass be celebrated in Elaine's name. Elaine's family would like to thank the wonderful staff and management of Casa Palo Duro, 7808 Palo Duro Ave. NE, for the wonderful love and care they showered on Elaine the final 3 years of her life.
