Jose Herrera Y Paz went home to our Lord Thursday morning, June 27, 2002. He is preceded in death by his son, David Herrera. He was a lifelong resident of Carnuel, NM. He is survived by his daughter, Tomasita H. Valdez; his son, Ben Herrera and his grandson, Augustine Herrera, whom he raised; sisters, Josie Griego of Albuquerque, Avelina Abeyta of Oakland, CA, Melly Garcia of Oakland, CA; grandchildren, Melly Garcia and wife, Josie, Eloy Garcia, and Vicki Bautista; 15 great-grandchildren; 27 great-great-grandchildren; four great-great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. We were very fortunate to have six generations. He lived through three centuries. Grandpa was loved very much by his family and friends. We all enjoyed listening to his stories of the good old days. Rosary will be Sunday, June 30, 2002 at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Child Parish in Carnuel, NM and Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, July 1, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Child Parish in Carnuel. Burial will follow at Carnuel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jerry Herrera, Sam Herrera, Roger Garcia, Eric Garcia and David Barela, Jr., and Anthony Barela. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ralph Garcia, Ernest Garcia, and Sonny Maez. Arrangements are entrusted to Metropolitan Direct Burial and Cremation Center, 729 San Mateo NE, 256-9400.
