Obituary for Smith

Floyd A. Smith, 80, passed away on July 13, 2002. He was born in Lawton, OK on October 11, 1921. He served in the Army Air Corps in China during WWII flying troops and supplies over"the Hump" the Himalayan Mountains between China and India. He earned numerous awards and citations including the Distinguished Flying Cross. Following the war he spent 33 years as an air traffic controller with the FAA until his retirement in 1980. He was a resident of Albuquerque for nine years from 1947-1956. He pursued several hobbies including stamp and coin collecting, photography, and travel. He was a member of the BPOE, the Hump Pilots Assn., the CBI Veterans Assn., and the DFC Society. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 59 years, Florence K. Smith; a son, King and his wife, Robbin; and three grandchildren, Aaron, Kelsey, and Kaelyn. According to his wishes he will be cremated with remains buried next to his daughter, Sue Ann, who preceded him in death. Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. in Fairview Memorial Park, Strong Thorne Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
