Obituary for Edwards

Doris Grissam, Doris Edwards, 77, passed away on July 17, 2002 in San Diego, California, due to complications from Alzheimer's disease. Mrs. Edwards was a resident of Albuquerque for 55 years. Mrs. Edwards was born in Albuquerque on November 12, 1924 to M.L. (Mike) and Faye Grissam. She was a 1942 graduate of Albuquerque High School and was very active in several social organizations as a girl. She was a member of Job's Daughters and served as Grand Worthy Advisor of Rainbow for Girls in 1943. In 1944, she married Elmer E. Edwards and they settled in Albuquerque. For 25 years, Mrs. Edwards was a partner, with her husband and father, in Strongs Stationery and Office Supply in Albuquerque. After both her husband and father's deaths, Mrs. Edwards sold the store in 1969. In the ensuing years, while still in Albuquerque, she worked first for James-Thomas Construction and then Van Atta Laboratories. In 1980, Mrs. Edwards moved to California and then Colorado to be near her son. In 1988, Mrs. Edwards retired and moved to San Diego where she resided until her death. Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by her husband; father; mother; and brother, E. Essley Grissam. She is survived by her son, Mikel Edwards, San Diego; her daughter, Kathy Bute, Ponca City, OK; three granddaughters, Kristin, Tiffany and Amber; and one great-granddaughter, Trinity, all of Ponca City. Graveside Services for Mrs. Edwards will be held Tuesday, July 23, 11:00 a.m. at Sandia Memory Gardens. Mrs. Edwards will be interred next to her husband. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association 919 North Michigan Avenue Suite 1100 Chicago, Illinois 60611-1676.
