Obituary for Chavez

Jacob Chavez, 89, peacefully passed away on Saturday July 20, 2002. He was born in 1912 to Melquides and Katalina Chavez in Belen, NM and moved to Gallup, NM in 1937 where he resided for eleven years. In 1948 he moved with his wife and children to San Bernadina, CA. He retired in 1974 after thirty-three years of dedication to the Santa Fe Rail Road. He then moved to Los Lunas where he resided for the past twenty-seven years until his passing. Jacob was an extremely hard worker and provided for his family excellently. The family never lacked anything, even during the Depression years. He also taught his family many worthwhile values. His family learned that honesty and truthfulness were two of the most valuable qualities that they would ever need in life. He was a member of San Clemente Catholic Church in Los Lunas, and also the Eagles Lodge for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Vicente in 1989, Elias in 1998; and one sister, Elena Rodriguez in 1996; one granddaughter, Debra Lynn Tracy in 1957; and one grandson, Reynold Baca in 1976. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Rose of their home in Los Lunas; two loving daughters, Cecilia Tracy and her husband Jack and Elsie Baca and her husband Rey, both of Los Lunas; seven grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; two and a half great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Hill of Gallup, NM. He is also survived by his many loving nieces, nephew's, cousins and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2002 at Romero Funeral Home at 5:30 p.m. followed by a rosary at 6:00 p.m. There will be another viewing held at San Clemente Catholic Church on Wednesday, July 24, 2002 at 9:00 a.m. with a rosary at 9:30 a.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the Los Lentes Cemetery.
