Obituary for Bocko

Wilma Rachel Bocko, 83, a resident of Albuquerque since July 1953, died on July 18, 2002. She is survived by her husband, Dan Bocko of Albuquerque; son, Lewis K. Spring and wife, Susan; daughter in law, Paulette Jefferson; grandchildren, Kelly Jo Bassham, Rebecca Jo Spring, Tammy Lou Hickman, Jennifer Spring, Jessica Spring, Michele Barry, Melissa Spellman and one grandson, Steven Cobb; a brother, Dewey Lewis and wife, Dorothy of Amarillo, TX. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Levi L. Spring; her son, Jonathan David Spring, and her sisters, Lillian and Mamie and brother, Frank Lewis. She was a graduate of Southwestern State College, Durant, Oklahoma and taught school in Oklahoma for ten years prior to entering the profession in New Mexico in 1953. Following her arrival in Albuquerque she taught second grade at Bel-Air Elementary School for twenty-six years. She spent the school year 1970-71 teaching second grade for the Anchorage Burroughs School System of Anchorage, Alaska. She was an active participant in the Albuquerque Public Schools Classroom Teachers Association and the National Education Association prior to her retirement from the Albuquerque Public Schools in 1983. Wilma participated in various professional organizations and was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, an organization for professional women educators. She was truly dedicated to the education of children and youth through the promotion of self worth and dignity of the individual. Wilma was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rio Rancho and a community sponsor for various charitable and civic groups. Above all else she was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and true friend. Memorial service will be held on Friday, July 26, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Rio Rancho, 3906 19th Ave. SE with Pastor Si Budagher officiating. Friends may visit French Mortuary - Westside Chapel, 9300 Golf Course (3 blocks North of Paseo Del Norte) on Thursday, July 25, 2002 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Redden Cemetery in Redden, Oklahoma on Monday, July 29, 2002. Honorary pallbearers will be Gilbert Jefferson, Lewis Spring, Chris Hickman, Perry Bassham, Steve Spellman and Richard Baca.
