Obituary for Garcia

David E. (D.E.) Garcia, beloved husband, brother and father died on Wednesday, August 7, 2002 at his home surrounded by family. D.E. was 59 years young. He was the son of Connie Garcia and the late Arturo Garcia of Albuquerque. He is survived by his beloved wife, Evelyn; his cherished daughters, Liane Garcia, Janelle Callahan and husband, Marvin, and Angela Martinez and husband, Peter; his sons, Damian Garcia and wife, Lisa, and Frank Armenta and wife, Renee;¯sisters, Margarita Trujillo, Irene Smith and Helen Chavez and husband, John. He is also survived by one brother, Gilbert Garcia and wife, Jill, and was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Garcia. D.E. was loved dearly by his nine precious grandchildren, Derrick, Deanndra, Taneke, Peter, Jr; Hannah, Alexis, Frank Jr., Dominic; and great-grandson Derrick, Jr., D.E. is also survived by his very special Goddaughter, Carla and many other loving relatives. D.E. was born into a Catholic family on June 19, 1943. He attended Albuquerque Public Schools, graduating from Albuquerque High School in 1961. He attended U.N.M. and the University of Albuquerque and joined the Albuquerque Police Department in 1965. D.E. retired from the Albuquerque Police Department after 22 years of service to his community. The last 17 years of his career were spent as a Violent Crimes Detective. D.E. was honored as Police Officer of the Month and Officer of the Quarter eventually leading to his selection as Police Officer of the Year in 1985. D.E. was currently serving as President of the Fraternal Order of Police (F.O.P.) Albuquerque Lodge #1. He was a co-founder of the Chicano Police Officers Association of Albuquerque and instrumental in organizing the Albuquerque Police Officers Association Union. As an avid Harley Davidson rider, he was one of the founders of the Blue Nights of New Mexico, Chapter One.¯ He was recently sworn in as a member of the Ballut Abyad Shrine. All whom he touched will miss D.E. Memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, August 10, 2002 at the Albuquerque Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #1 located at 5900 Jefferson N.E.
