Obituary for Davis

John Davis, 76, a resident of Moriarty, NM passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2002. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rita; two sons, John Wayne Davis of Roswell, NM and Joe Davis of Liberal, KS; one daughter, Monica Astorga and her husband, Onofre (Opie) of Dodge City, KS; three grandchildren, Brianna and Stefani Astorga of Dodge City, KS; and grandson, Jeromy Bynum of Magee, MS; sisters, Rose McCourt and Guadalupe Fogleman of Albuquerque; and one brother, Frank Davis of Moriarty, NM; and numerous nieces and nephews. John was born on October 16, 1925 on the Davis Ranch northwest of Moriarty to George Davis and Angelita (Chavez) Davis. John was preceded in death by daughter, Angie Bynum; his parents; and eight brothers and sisters. John worked on a dairy farm, car dealership, service station, ran his own business for a while, but he is most fondly remembered for his work and dedication as Police Chief of Moriarty for 28 years. He has always been very good with children and during his years as police chief he helped many teenagers. He was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Moriarty. When not on duty as a police chief, he drove the ambulance and tended to his livestock. He always enjoyed ranching. A Rosary will be recited on Friday, September 13, 2002 at our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Funeral Services will be Saturday, September 14, 2002, 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel with Father Anthony Martinez officiating. Interment will follow at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Moriarty. Pallbearers will be Calvin Davis Sr., Charles Uitts, George Davis, Louie Anaya, Steve Anaya, Brandon Boe Davis. Honorary Pallbearers will be Allen Walters, George Fogleman, Joel Fogleman, Charlie Anaya, Dick Myers and Larry Gallant. Arrangements were entrusted to the Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Moriarty, NM.
