Obituary for Whitson

Ralph W. Whitson, 88, a resident of Albuquerque since 1950, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 22, 2002. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Marjorie; daughter, Cheryl Cox and husband, Stanley of Omaha, NE; sons, John Whitson and wife, Gayle of Perth, Australia, Paul Whitson and wife Nancy, James Whitson and wife Stephanie, all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Joseph Cox and wife Michelle, Kimball Vredeveld and husband Kevin, Mollie Whitson, Luke Whitson, Ashley Whitson, Michael Whitson, Jennifer Whitson and Whitney Whitson; and great-grandson, Joshua Joseph Cox. Ralph was born in Payson, Utah on October 17, 1913. He graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked as a master mechanic for U & I Sugar Company in Utah, Idaho, South Dakota and Montana, before enlisting in the U.S. Navy as an Ensign. He served three years in the South Pacific as a flag secretary before being discharged in 1945 as a Lieutenant Commander. In 1945 he married Marjorie Kimball, and in 1950 they relocated to Albuquerque where he worked at Sandia Laboratories until his retirement in 1973. He was active in Boy Scouts and served as an elder and trustee at Immanuel Presbyterian Church. He also served on the board of Sandia Labs Federal Credit Union. Ralph enjoyed traveling and was an enthusiastic supporter of his children and grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Friday, September 27th, 11:00 a.m., at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, 114 Carlisle SE.
