Obituary for Kreiner

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Saturday September 28, 2002

Donald"Pat"rick Kreiner, self declared party person, dedicated Loafer, pacifist, philosopher, theologian, lover, conversationalist who will argue either side of any question. He was born August 13, 1924, in Winnett, MT, the youngest of eight children, to Margaret Cameron and Edward Kreiner. He died September 25, 2002 in Santa Fe, NM. He was preceded in death by Sarah Patricia Kreiner; as well as his parents; and most of his siblings. He is survived by his daughters, Kay and Susan Kreiner; his sister, Kay McArty; and many friends. Pat, a man with a generous heart, will always be remembered for being himself and for having a great sense of humor. He constantly searched for spiritual truth and looked down every path to find it. Pat was a fantastic story teller and elaborator who engaged and challenged people to expand themselves. As well, he let people be who they were; he was not judgmental. Pat was a tail gunner in the Army Air Corps during WWII in the European theater, receiving a Purple Heart, five Bronze Stars, an Air Medal with two Bronze Clusters and (believe it or not) a Good Conduct Medal. He was awarded a Bachelor of Arts in Business from Gonzaga University and a Master of Applied Theology from the Institute of Lay Theology at the University of San Francisco. His varied career included being a journeyman meat cutter, a lay theologian for the Catholic Church and social worker for the State of New Mexico. As a Lay Theologian he served in Spokane, Los Alamos, Des Moines and Albuquerque. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at John XXIII, Catholic Community in Albuquerque on October 1, 2002 at 7:00 p.m. A reception will follow. Burial Service will be held at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe on October 3, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. Here's to you, Pat Kreiner. We love you. Farewell. In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to La Residencia Nursing Home for residents in need.
