Obituary for Sanchez

Ramon Sanchez, born, January 19, 1958 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away as a result of a tragic motorcycle accident in Tucson, Arizona on September 26, 2002. Ramon was a resident of Tucson, Arizona for the last 6 years. He was survived in death by his father, Alfred Sanchez, Sr.; his mother, Estella Sanchez; his brothers, Alfred Sanchez, Jr., Andrew Sanchez, and Chris Sanchez. He also leaves behind his beloved"Tucson Family" and friends. He was a loving uncle, affectionately known only as"Uncle Bam-Bam" to his niece, Anita Duran, and great-nephew, Nicholas Vincent Duran. Ramon's many accomplishments included: working as a Seismic Engineer for Sergeant and Lundy in Chicago, Illinois for 9 years, building nuclear plants. While in Chicago, he was a competitor in Judo at the Jiu Jitsu Institute, where he received his International Black Belt. Upon return to Albuquerque, he studied at the University of New Mexico, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Sociology. He then migrated to Tucson, Arizona, receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Arizona in Archeology, which became his passion. After receiving his degree he was first employed by Desert Archeology, and most recently worked for Western Cultural Resource Management as field supervisor and crew chief, conducting archeological surveys, survey reports and asserting archeological recommendations, and directing field personnel in excavation techniques and documentation strategies. His passion in this field was so great that his future plans included studying for his Doctorate's degree in Archeology. This also included a desire to teach in this area at the college level. Ramon's passion for motorcycles led him to becoming a member of the"Elite Club of Hoggs" in Tucson, Arizona. He fulfilled one of his lifelong dreams of owning a Harley and"riding free." His other affiliations include being a member of the United States Judo Federation with the Jiu Jitsu Institute of Chicago, where he had a"Kodokan" membership, carrying the rank of Black Belt. Ramon was also a card-carrying member of the NRA. Ramon had a passion for helping others, and a willingness to do whatever was necessary to support that passion. Memorial service will take place on Friday at 2:00 p.m. at French Mortuary - Westside Chapel, 9300 Golf Course Rd. NW (3 blocks N. of Paseo Del Norte) with Father Galli, officiating. A reception will follow at French Mortuary - Reception Hall. In lieu of flowers, and in keeping with Ray's dedication to higher education, the family is requesting that donations be made to the college fund for"Ray's Vision for the Future," Nicolas Vincent Duran, beloved nephew.
