Obituary for Irick

Lee Brownlow Irick, 20, a student at the College of Santa Fe died Saturday, 28 September 2002 after a brief illness. A gentle giant of a young man, he will be greatly missed by his fellow students and extended Family.Lee was born on Febuary 1, 1982, in Albuquerque, and as a child attended Manzano Day school. In 1994, he moved with his mother, Melinda, to Gallup, where he graduated from Gallup Highschool in 2001. At the time of his death, he was studying Moving Images as sophmore at the College of Santa Fewhere he was also a class senator during his freshman year. He worked in the fast food industry while in high school and during his summer vacations. His interests included film, and playing music with his best friend, Jim. He is survived by his mother, Melinda Hirst; his father and stepmother, John E. and Patricia Irick; his maternal grandfather and stepgrandmother, Lee and Marie Hirst; his maternal grandmother, Linn Hirst; his paternal grandmother, Gayle Irick; his sister, Mara Harrell and his stepbrother, Abe Plotsky. Other surviving relatives include Paula Alcon, Dan and Jody Irick, Sally and Dan Pearson and his numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, John B. Irick, a New Mexico state legislator and politician.The family would like to extend a very special thank you to his heroic friend Mario Sepres, who gave Lee CPR in his final moments. A memorial celebration of Lee Irick's life is set for noon Wednesday, October 2, at The Quad at the College of Santa Fe. This memorial is organized and will be presented by his co-students who will greatly miss his wit and charm. Prior to the memorial, poetry and flowers may be attached to his truck, which is currently parked behind the college dormitory
