Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday October 20, 2002

Daniel Thompson Cochran, age 30, died October 12, 2002 in an accident at his home in Las Cruces, NM. Dan had been a Mechanical Engineering student at NMSU and will be awarded a posthumous BSME in December. An honor student, he had been an invitation-only member of a national academic honors engineering fraternity. Dan was a skilled carpenter, welder, and draftsman. He participated in the development and construction of an aerodynamics testing device for the military and a device ordered by the State Highway Department to clear tumbleweeds from highways. He also worked as a building manager at the NMSU student center. Dan will be remembered for his mastery with all things mechanical and his cheerful willingness to help anyone who asked. Whether it was working on his mother's ornery computer, helping a friend move, or lending a sympathetic and caring ear, Dan was there. He was loved by all who knew him. He is survived by his brother, Andy (Dan took his big-brother responsibilities seriously); mother, Eunice; pa, Tom; grandmother, Ellen Amt of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 22, 2002 at Christ Lutheran Church -Pennsylvania and Candelaria NE. In lieu of flowers, the family believes Dan would request donations to Christ Lutheran School, NMSU Mechanical Engineering Scholarships, or the Animal Humane Society of New Mexico. Arrangements by Direct Funeral Services, 2919 4th ST. NW. Albuq. 505-343-8008.
