Obituary for Rubin

Richard L. Rubin died at age 61 on October 27, 2002, having lived a rich and thoroughly fulfilled life. Born in New York City, he graduated from Queens College and Brooklyn Law School. While conducting a full-time law practice, he was special counsel to the Speaker of the State Assembly of New York State. New York City Mayor Abraham Beame appointed Richard as the City of New York's Legislative Representative to the New York State Legislature for the years 1975 through 1977. He later also served as the long-time Executive Secretary of the Queens County Democratic Party, and as a Carter-Mondale alternate to the 1980 Democratic National Convention. Richard and his wife, Terry Lee, moved to New Mexico at the end of 1990, to enjoy the lifestyle available here. He most recently served as the President of the Northern New Mexico Tennis Association (NNMTA), was a certified tennis referee, and officiated at numerous tennis tournaments in the area. Richard was selected as the NNMTA Junior Tournament Director of the Year for 1996. He was the founding treasurer of the Solomon Schechter Day School of Albuquerque, having been named volunteer of the year for 1997-1998. He was a past treasurer of Congregation B'nai Israel. Richard was a devoted, loving and supportive husband. He was a grantor of wishes to his wife and was totally adored by her. Richard raised two fine, accomplished sons, and was intensely dedicated to accomplishing whatever his mother and brothers needed. He is survived by his wife, Terry Lee Heller; his mother, Estelle Jaslow, of Pembroke Pines, FL; his son, Dr. Joshua Rubin and daughter-in-law, Dr. Tobe Rubin, of Boca Raton, FL, and their children, Kayleigh Beth and Jacob; son, Seth, daughter-in-law Aimee of Woodbury, NY and their son, Harrison; brother, Dr. Stanley Rubin and sister-in-law, Barbara of Orange, CA; and brother, Marc Rubin and sister-in-law Vivian Rubin of Glenmont, NY; his niece Elizabeth Gumas, and nephews, Douglas and Jared Rubin.
