Obituary for Murphy

Marion J. Murphy, 88, a resident of Rio Rancho for 32 years, passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2002. He and his wife, Rachel came to New Mexico from Austin Minnesota. Marion was born July 19, 1914 the son of John P. and Lulu Gregg Murphy in Lyle, Minnesota. He had his own business, Murphy Oil Company, in Austin before retiring and moving to Rio Rancho. Marion had been in the oil business for over 35 years, with his own company for thirteen years. Marion served in the US Army during WW II. He was a member of the American Legion, the V.F.W., the Rio Rancho Elks Club, and the Rio Rancho Presbyterian Church. Marion was preceded in death by his son, James Alan Murphy, and one brother, Chester Murphy. He is survived by his wife, Rachel of the family home; children, Jana Edwards and husband, Joe of Placitas, NM, and Jack Murphy of Austin, MN; two brothers, Vernon Murphy of Osage, IA and Richrd Murphy of Austin, MN; two grandchildren, Karianne Johnson and husband Jake of Clarion, IA, and Chadwick Schoenfelder of Rochester, MN; three great-grandchildren, Kayleen, Connor, and Meleah Johnson of Clarion IA; and many nieces and nephews. A Visitation for Marion will be held on Monday, November 11, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. to Noon in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho. The Service will be at 2:00 p.m. at the Rio Rancho Presbyterian Church, 1004 24th Street, Rio Rancho with Rev. Larry Hitchens officiating. Interment will take place in Austin, MN. Pallbearers will be Jack Sattler, Walt Bode, Charles Lenz, Glen Reed, Glen Lemon, and Harry Bibra. In lieu of flowers, it has been suggested that memorials be made in Marion's name to the American Diabetes Association, New Mexico Area, 525 San Pedro, NE, Suite 101, Albuquerque, NM 87108.
