Obituary for Vasquez

Eliberto"Phil" Vasquez, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 9, 2002. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Marilyn Vasquez; one half-brother, Cerilo Vasquez; one son, Eliberto"Bert" Vasquez, Jr., and six daughters, Mary Baldomar and husband, Richard, Susan Gaxiola and husband, Rene, Martha Rodriguez and husband, Cesar, Rachel Martinez and husband, Jerome, Myra Rollins and husband, Gary and Anna Hernandez and husband, Art. He was blessed with 11 grandchildren, Gabriel Gaxiola and wife, Valerie, Rebecca Rasmusson, Jerry, Aryana, Jacob"J.J." and Justin Martinez, Christopher, Alexander and Anastasia Baldomar, Andrew and Austin Hernandez and three great-grandchildren, Emiliano, Gabriella and Susana Gaxiola. Eliberto was a veteran of WWII where he was awarded the Purple Heart while serving his country in Europe. He was a driver for the Albuquerque Transit System, where he retired after 26 years of service. He loved to work with wood, as displayed by the many furniture pieces that adorn his home and his children's homes. Eliberto loved animals and was particularly fond of his dogs. He loved his coffee, sweets and chile. He had favorite sayings as"panza llena, corazon contento" and"comida sin chile, no es comida." He was a long-standing member of the Church of Albuquerque, where he was a minister. Eliberto loved to travel all over the world. He was independent, strong and a man of character. He will be missed but never forgotten. Evening service will be held on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary - Westside Chapel, 9300 Golf Course Rd. NW (3 blocks N. of Paseo Del Norte.) Prayer service will take place on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. also at French Mortuary. Burial will follow at 11:30 at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Friends may visit on Tuesday at French Mortuary - Westside Chapel, from 4:00 p.m. until time of service.
