Obituary for Townsend

Rod F. Townsend, 58, passed away in his home peacefully in Sandia Park, NM on November 26, 2002. He was the owner of the Old Town Card Shop in Albuquerque, NM. Rod was best known for his talent as a hand-screen printer. He perfected the art of hand screening through over 40 years of experience. Many of his hand-screened Christmas cards and notes hang framed in homes all over the U.S. and even in some parts of the world. He carried a gold PRCA card due to of professionally competing at rodeos in California roping. His big joy was breaking and training young horses. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will best be remembered for his talent as a hand screen card printer. His family and friends loved most his quite shy gentle nature and his quick wit and humor. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Sandra Townsend; his oldest son, Jesse Townsend, wife, Jennifer, and their son Rodney Cole of McDonough, GA; his younger son, Trenton Townsend, wife, Gabriela, and their twin daughters, Katya and Camille of Flushing, MI. He is also survived by his last remaining sibling, his sister Rosalie Dial and her husband, Harold Dial of Vista, Ca; as well as many nephews and nieces. The minister presiding will be Rod's nephew and friend, David Townsend of Oceanside, CA. Pallbearers are Harold Dial, Jack Smithart, John Dunlap, Henry McKinley, Jack Anderson and Ronnie Switzer. Honorary Pallbearers are Harry Leighton and Sharon Winget. Funeral Services will be held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in the chapel at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 3, 2002; with burial to follow directly in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers make donations in memory of Rod Townsend to the American Cancer Society, Southwestern Division, Inc., P.O.
