Obituary for Mccardle

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday December 01, 2002

Dorothy E. McCardle. On Friday, November 22, 2002 Dorothy passed quietly in her sleep while under the care of William"Shane" Burrows, her friend and caretaker. Two sons, Edward and Thomas; their wives; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren who all called her"Na-Naw" survive her. One grandson, Joseph and his family also live in Albuquerque where he is currently stationed with the U.S. Army. Eleanor, as she liked to be called, was born in Toledo, OH in 1924. She had traveled extensively in many states and finally settled in Albuquerque. She was a loving mother and grand/great-grandmother who was a history buff and thoroughly enjoyed sharing her experiences with her children and grandchildren. Her vast knowledge was gained through her many life experiences and a great intelligence. Eleanor will be missed very much by all who knew her and for her quick wit and warm hugs. All of her family and friends know she is in a much better place with the Lord. A gift of 100 vibrant, beautiful trees will be planted by the National Arbor Society in a National Forest in memory of Eleanor for future generations and will be silent sentinels and a honorable monument for Eleanor. They will also inspire her traits of energy, faith, devotion, and courage and carry forward her name in a living, vital way that grows grander with the years. She was a great lover of nature and believed, as John Muir did, that"the clearest way into the universe is through a forest of trees." A Private Memorial will be held and the family asks that no flowers be sent but donation be made to the American Heart Association in her memory. May the Lord hold mom and Na-Naw in his hands for eternity.
