Obituary for Hirt

Edward C. Hirt, a resident of Albuquerque since 1960 passed away on Tuesday, December 3, 2002. He was born in Chicago in 1917. He is survived by his wife, Flavia of the home; son, Tod and wife, Julianne; grandchildren, Samuel and Caroline Hirt; of Alexandria, VA; nephew, Carl and wife, Linda; niece, Diane Hirt of the Chicago area. His parents and his brother, Don Hirt preceded him in death. Ed served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and in the Korean Conflict. He was employed by Sandia National Laboratories for 30 years, retiring in 1982. He volunteered in the Pilot Mail Booth for the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta for 20 years and was an active volunteer for many years for the Chaparral Girl Scout Council. Ed was active in the Democratic Party, was a former member and Chairman of the Bernalillo County Board of Voter Registration and a Precinct Chair. He was a charter member of the Friendship Force of New Mexico. The Funeral Service for Mr. Hirt will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 6, 2002, at Fitzgerald and Son Funeral Directors Chapel, with interment following at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Fitzgerald and Son Funeral Directors, 3113 Carlisle NE are handling arrangements for Edward C. Hirt.
