Obituary for Chavez

Elvira G. Chavez, 90, peacefully departed on Thursday, December 5, 2002. She was born on September 8, 1912 in San Rafael, NM, graduated from Los Lunas High School in 1929 and resided in Albuquerque. Elvira was preceded in death by her parents, former Valencia County Sheriff Pablo and Mrs. Maria Gallegos; three brothers; two sisters; her husband, Benjamin Chavez; and sons, Candido and Paul Chavez. She is survived by her two sisters, Rachel and Vina Blea; her loving children, Mary and husband, Eloy Barela, Robert Chavez, Margaret and husband, Henry Chavez, all of Albuquerque, Benjamin and wife, Frances Chavez of MontClair, VA; and daughter-in-law, Evelyn Chavez of Scottsdale, AZ. Elvira is also survived by 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. As a member of Risen Savior Catholic Church, Elvira was a Eucharistic Minister and an active member of Our Lady's Outreach and Cursillo Movement. Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, December 7, 2002, at 9:00 a.m., at Risen Savior Catholic Community, 7701 Wyoming Blvd. NE. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the New Mexico Chapter of Alzheimer's Association.
