Obituary for Barela

Mrs. Nicomedes Beatrice (Nico) Barela, 97, a lifelong resident of New Mexico passed away December 6, 2002 surrounded by the people she loved. Mrs. Barela has gone to join her husband, Carlos Barela of 69 years in the enteral heavens above. Mrs. Barela was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on April 24, 1905 where she lived a wonderful life on this earth. During her lifetime she devoted herself to her family. Mrs. Barela was a homemaker who loved to cook, sew, craft and work in her garden. She was united in marriage November 3, 1932 to her loving husband, Carlos Barela in San Fidel, NM. She enjoyed life and treasured her family and friends. Mrs. Barela would spend hours talking on the phone and visiting with those she loved. She enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, a slice of lemon meringue pie, going to church, sitting outside on her front porch, going out to eat and watching television. Nico is survived by her daughter, Delores Oehm; three grandchildren, Jean Sinclair and husband, Curtis, Debbie Otero and husband, John, Carl A. Apodaca and wife, Anita; six great-grandchildren, Nicole Sinclair and husband, Michael Sibley, Lisa Arnold and husband, Brian, Matthew Otero, Krystin Apodaca, Carl C. Apodaca and Phillip Otero; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Nico was preceded in death by her parents, Diego and Delores Armijo; three brothers; four sisters; and an infant son, Diego. Mrs. Barela was a member of the Catholic Church. A Visitation for Mrs. Barela will be Sunday afternoon from 2:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel, 1000 Old Coors Dr SW with a Rosary to be recited at 3:00 p.m. by Gabriella Nieto. A final visitation will be Monday Morning from 8:30 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church, 1400 Arenal SW with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. by Father Daniel Balizan. Interment will follow at the Barela Ranch in Acomita, New Mexico. Pallbears will be Carl Apodaca, Carl C. Apodaca, Curt Sinclair, John Otero, Matthew Otero and Phillip Otero.
